The Community Assets Guarantee

The Community Assets Guarantee is Sam Sinjari's proposed policy of transparent, enforceable rules — with real resident notice — before any municipal land or park in Lakeshore is put up for redevelopment. It is designed so decisions like the 2025 Oakwood Park proposal cannot move forward without the community at the table.

What is the Community Assets Guarantee?

It is a commitment that publicly-owned land and parks — the community's shared assets — are protected by clear rules and genuine public notice before any sale, lease, or redevelopment is considered.

How would it work?

Any proposal involving municipal land or parkland would require early, direct notice to affected residents, a transparent public process, and a defined standard for consultation — not a quiet Expression of Interest that residents discover after the fact.

Why is it needed?

In 2025, the Municipality issued an Expression of Interest to redevelop Oakwood Park. Residents said they learned about it through social media, gathered more than 2,200 signatures, and council voted 7–1 to withdraw the plan. The Guarantee is built so that fight never has to happen again.

Residents should never have to organize a petition just to be told what's happening to their own park. Consent comes first.
